I've just arrived home after leaving my job of 11 years. This is the first thing I read in my newly unemployed state. Charmingly crafted. (Who says you can't write about dreams?) Thank you.
Oh Caz, thank you for this comment, this means a lot to me. (You get some kind of prize for being the first commenter on my substack -- something in the future if this thing ever takes off ☺️)
I hope the job leaving was ok ... and was voluntary? And whether you're looking for a new job or embracing being unemployed, I hope it's a refreshing and inspiring new phase to be in.
I had been toying with creating a Substack. How many quality Substacks are loitering in the shadows, along with others that are not for me? Tens of thousands? So now I’m ambivalent. They say to start a Substack only if you already have an audience to bring along with you; that criterion excludes MOST people, but they create anyway. I think that’s a good thing. But maybe it won’t be for me.
Would you mind sharing your experience of having a Substack, about being a contributor, not only an observer, are you enjoying creation of content? Has itt helped to sharpen your thinking and writing, for example? Has it changed your approach to your creativity?!
I think the main thing is it's making me commit to writing something each week, which in turn is spurring more creativity. It feels like a good process and the platform makes it really easy to do so. It still all feels pretty experimental (it's far removed from my day job), but it's bringing me a lot of peace and solace and enjoyment.
Hi Nathan – thank you for asking, and for the kind thoughts. Yes, voluntary. I was done, done, done. I was listening to Joplin, Me & Bobby McGee a short while ago. Nothing left to lose. Finally. I don’t know what happens next. I also enjoyed your short book review, btw, and yes, an excellent book cover.
A bit late to the party on reading this, really liked the middle section pacing, the images that appear to form and vanish quickly at the bar, it has that dreamlike feel where objects come in an out of consciousness and the details that stick appear peripheral but left me as a reader with a clearer sense than a long drawn exposition, really worked for me, can’t wait to catch up on more of these!
No need to apologise. The good thing is that these pieces don't go anywhere (well, unless Substack implodes ... 😅)
I actually haven't written any Dreams for a while. There's been a bit of a drought of significant ones. Maybe the holiday season will precipitate some more.

I say go for it! I had no audience to bring along with me, aside form me forcing it upon a few friends ;)
The community on Substack in general seems amazing and the more potentially niche stuff the better. The world is huge, after all.
True, the world is big, and diverse!

Good questions! :)

Ah, that's more than enough reasons.
Peace and solace is an interesting point, because I find your writing style soothing, regardless of the topic.

Some vivid imagery you have going here! Nicely done Nathan.
Thanks, Alexander.
You should see how vivid they are in the night, haha.
Too vivid for Notes! Also, I want that chili infused
Quatre-fromage pizza...

Thanks Brian, really appreciate it.

Very interesting, and kudos to you for making a potentially unintelligible dream experience make sense.
